"Wetlands Park Friends Takes the Long View in Supporting Clark County Wetlands Park."

Imagine an expansive, lush, and green oasis in the southeastern corner of the Mojave Desert, just a few miles from the hustle and bustle of the Las Vegas Strip. There you will find Clark County Wetlands Park (Park), a 2,900-acre managed wild area that straddles nearly eight miles of the Las Vegas Wash as its waters flow east to Lake Mead. Created with four unique habitats, the Park provides diversity for native plants and wildlife. It is truly an extraordinary place for the approximately 500,000 visitors who come for personal recreation, education, and enjoyment each year.

As the Park's popularity continues to grow, there are increasing demands being placed on its infrastructure, programs, and activities. Surprisingly, the Park doesn't require an entrance fee. Entry to its Nature Center Exhibit Hall and many of its family-friendly events and activities are also provided to the public at no charge.

The Park is a great place for school children to experience nature and learn more about the "science" behind the natural area's special purpose in the Vegas Valley. Here in the Nature Center's Exhibit Hall, kids are engaged in dioramas depicting the plants and animals that thrive here.

That's where Wetlands Park Friends (Friends) comes in. This all-volunteer, nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization is dedicated to supporting the programs and activities of the Park. These include the Park's acclaimed educational programs for Clark County School District students, special guest lectures, stewardship programs, and popular events. Many of these could benefit from additional funding and support from people like you.

Planting is for everyone! An adult and two young children volunteer to plant bushes in the Park's Butterfly Garden as part of a stewardship program supported by the NFL Green organization. Friends provided the rugged work gloves to protect the stewards from the elements.

At ponds located within the Park's 210-acre Nature Preserve, visitors can see a diverse range of aquatic plants and animals.

If you're quiet and patient as you walk on the Park's elaborate system of paved and unpaved trails, you might be able to see things you've never seen before, like newly hatched hummingbird chicks waiting patiently in their nest for a parent to return with food.

From a Park observation deck, visitors eagerly search for wildlife alongside Wash. The nearby Goodding's willow trees are amongst the oldest native trees in Clark County Wetlands Park.
