When Was the Last Time You Visited the East End of Clark County Wetlands Park?

The morning’s are still cool—why not enjoy a pleasant ramble along the paved and unpaved trails on the East side of Park!

As an avid bike rider, one of my favorite rides is along the South Loop Trail of the Park between the Pabco Trailhead and Terrazza Park (City of Henderson). This morning,  I decided to “forego the bike” and “take a hike,” walking the peaceful, unpaved path from the Discovery Weir (not far from the Powerline Crossing near Terrazza Park) to the Vern Bostick Interpretive Site (about one mile east of the Pabco Trailhead). The relatively flat, approximately three-mile trail winds along the Las Vegas Wash, affording some terrific water and mountain views.  And pleasant surprises!

While I was fortunate to see some distant shorebird action on the Wash, I was delighted by seeing a lone coyote (Canis latrans) taking in that view. Later, a covey of quail (mom, dad, and more than a dozen recent hatchlings) crossed my path in a particularly dense patch of sandbar willow (Salix exigua) and willow baccharis (Baccharis salicina). Of course, not one of them paused long enough for me to grab a decent picture.

There’s always something to appreciate in the Park. So advantage of our extended spring and get out there! And keep your camera or phone handy to get a good snap!
