Discovery Day 2026: The Dragonfly Domain Table Was Well Attended

Dragonfly tabling team prepared for action Staff-Light

On Saturday, June 27, your Friends Tabling Team and Social Media Manager were busy supporting the Park with its tabling and media recording activities at Discovery Day. The event was held indoors at the Park’s Nature Center. Over 450 guests attended.

President Chris Leavitt outdid herself producing the overall theme and elements for the Friends table, aptly named “Dragonfly Domain.” It was an incredible “Homage to the Dragonfly.” The Park has recorded 33 species!

Park guests learned about the origins of the dragonfly (carbon dated at at least 320 million years ago; 100 million years older than the first dinosaur) and their life cycle (which includes the most time under water as a nymph, up to 5 years, for some; and finally, above the ground as a dragonfly for one to three months). There were informative paper diagrams of the insect as well as preserved samples and replicas in plastic. And, there was a delightful interpretation of the dragonfly as a steampunk piece of art (thank you, Bob Leavitt, for lending it).
