The Full “Sturgeon” Moon Was Touted by Friends at the Stalking Twilight Evening Program August 9

Full moon glowing in the night sky.

Under the wise tutelage of Chris and Bob Leavitt, and Anne Marie Lardeau, participants were taught how to look at the full moon through binoculars and spotting scopes. They learned how to distinguish the lighter part of the old surface or crust of the moon from the newer, dark places that were formed by lava flows of volcanoes, called nars. As a bonus, they observed nighthawks and bats hunting and saw a red tailed hawk getting ready for shuteye. Thank you, Friends! Photo by Maria Roper, Facebook/Las Vegas
